Waivers

Immigration law contains numerous “bars of admissibility”, which prevent foreign nationals from obtaining permanent resident status or other immigration benefits.  Common bars relate to criminal history and past immigration violations.  These bars can prevent foreign nationals from gaining entry to or permanent residence in the United States for anywhere from three years to a lifetime.  In many circumstances, individuals may avoid these bars by applying for a waiver.  Approval of the waiver may dependent on factors such as hardship to a U.S. citizen or permanent resident relative, or the applicant’s rehabilitation or good moral character.

For more information, see I-601 waivers.
