Consular Processing

Consular processing refers to the procedure by which a foreign national who is outside the United States applies for an Immigrant Visa at an overseas U.S. embassy or consulate.  As with adjustment of status, the individual must be the beneficiary of an approved immigrant visa petition and have a current priority date.  Upon entry into the U.S. with the Immigrant Visa, the individual becomes a lawful permanent resident.
